Couples have reconciled after training

Ruhango district mayor, Francois Xavier Mbabazi has called on couples with domestic issues to stop and work together for the gender based violence free country.
The call was made during closing ceremony of one month training for representatives of the families with violence from Mbuye, Mwendo and Ntongwe sectors in Ruhango district.
The training was organized by RWAMUREK association and The Rwanda Network of People Living with HIV (RRP+).
The Rwanda Network of People living with HIV (RRP+) is a national non-governmental organization aiming at promoting and coordinating the actions of its members which are the associations of people living with HIV.
In his closing speech, Mayor Mbabazi revealed that Ruhango is among the districts that top in domestic violence.
However, the mayor explained that domestic violence is reducing drastically after development partners embarked on helping such families develop socially.

Sylvie Nyiransabimana, a resident of Mbuye sector in Ruhango district lamented that she was always ready for her husband’s beating every night and had no say in her home.
However, she highlights that since the training started a lot has changed and their children have gone back to school unlike before.
Some families have witnessed change ever since the training begun
Pascal Muhirwa, husband to Sylvie Nyiransabimana says he thought everything in the home rightfully belonged to a man until he attended the training.
“I could sell crops and livestock without her opinion and drink the whole money.” he recalls.
Eugenie Ingabire, worker at RRP+ confirms that much improvement has been noticed after couples started turning up for the training.
