RAYON SPORTS came out rushing on Sunday night to clear the outstanding dues of Coach Didier Gomes da Rosa who had vented his anger to the media after the seventh round of the Turbo King Football League held at Amahoro stadium.

Gomes demanded unpaid salaries and match allowances amounting to Rwf. 5.026,438 millions.

An angry Gomes said in an interview on Sunday after Rayon Sports 1-0 win over Mukura held at Amahoro stadium. He said, “I don’t want to comment on this issue because I love Rayon Sports, players and fans and do respect the club officials,”

“I am a coach of Rayon Sports but ther are sometimes when you have think twice about certain things and I hope to come with a decision in two days,” said Gomes without going into details.

However, Rayon Sports Secretary General Olivier Gakwaya said on Monday that the dues have been cleared and they are waiting to clear his salary for the month of October.

“We cleared the outstanding dues amounting to Rwf. 3.3 millions on Sunday night. What is remaining is his salary for the month of October (Rwf. 2.026, 438m) which will be cleared soon together with the rest of the club,” added Gakwaya.

Of recent, Rayon Sports has been hit with player frustrations over unpaid dues and indiscipline as they seek to retain this season’s league title.

Key strikers Samson Jakesh and Papy Kamanzi (Kambale Salita) have left defending champions Rayon Sports due to various reasons.

Jakesh, recently signed from Uganda Revenue Authority left the Nyanza-based club last week on Tuesday over unpaid balance worth Rwf. 1 million on the agreed recruitment fee. He had initially been given Rwf. 3 million and promised to be given the remaining balance in December.

On the same note, Kamanzi walked out of the team’s base mid last month after being sidelined because of an injury he sustained in the game against AS Muhanga to DR Congolese club AS Vita where he is reported to be featuring in the Congolese league.

The club which lost impressive defender Faustin usengimana to a leg injury earlier in the season is current placed second on the league standings with 16 points, two behind AS Kigali.

They face arch rivals APR in the eighth round of the season over the weekend in a crucial game for both sides who hold a rivalry degree of the highest order.

Gomes wrote history when he guided Rayon Sports to their first Rwandan league title since 2004 last season to push the team’s tally to 7 legue titles since 1968.

Gomes was unbeaten in 19 league matches with Rayon Sports’ fortunes known to have changed when Nyanza District took over the club, before the team relocated back to its ancestral home in the south.
